There are thousands of denominations in the world today.  Some have a central headquarters with elected officials who determine their position on various biblical topics.  Others have additional books and collections of teachings that are given similar or even greater authority than the Bible when it comes to what we say and do as Christians.  When faced with all of these different groups, one can’t help but wonder?  Is this what Christ really intended?

1 Corinthians 1:10-13 (NASB) ~ 10 Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe’s people, that there are quarrels among you. 12 Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, “I am of Paul,” and “I of Apollos,” and “I of Cephas,” and “I of Christ.” 13 Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

It is our goal, as members of the church of Christ, to seek to be Christians, only.  As a result, our question on every topic is the same: “What does the Bible say?”  As a result, you’ll see that the church of Christ can seem very different from your average church.  But in a world that’s diverged so far from God’s original intent, that’s a good thing!

When you visit with us, you’ll encounter the following on every Sunday service–not because they are our culture or our preference, but because they are what we see in the New Testament!

Singing

One of the parts of worship you will experience when visiting with us is singing. We love to sing praises to God! God loves to be praised with the fruit of our voices and we love to sing to Him! Music uplifts us and focuses us on praising God. At the Blackman church of Christ, we may do things a little different…

Prayer

Prayer is an important part of our spiritual life. God speaks to us through His Word (the bible) and we speak to God through prayer. We speak to our earthly fathers and we should take time to speak to our Heavenly Father. While individual prayer is important, it is also important to take time in our worship to God to pray to…

The Lord’s Supper

Another part of worship you will experience when visiting with us every Sunday is the Lord’s Supper. Whether a Sunday morning worship or Sunday evening, we always make a point to partake of the Bread and the Fruit of the Vine. God has called us to “do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19). While worshipping with the Blackman church of Christ,…

The Contribution

The contribution is an important part of our service to God. It’s the way that the church receives funds to do work. These funds are used for various things including support missionaries, preaching schools, children’s homes, local evangelism, benevolence, building repair, etc. Contributing back to the work of the church is a scriptural concept, but the way we do it may not…

Bible-Based Sermons

An important part of worship is for the worshippers to be edified in the Word of God. We want to serve God, understand His word, and learn more about it every time we get a chance. To do this we listen to a lesson presented by a preacher when we are together for worship. This is in line with scripture as you…

The Invitation

Following the sermon / lesson there will be an invitation. The invitation is a chance for anyone in the assembly to either respond to the gospel message and become a christian or to respond and ask for the prayers of the church on their behalf. We love to pray for those who feel they need prayers and we certainly love to help…
